Use Email to expand your reach

Let's talk about email. While you've been spending your time and energy trying to get social media to work for you (how many hours a week do you spend on Facebook trying to get followers? Let's not even talk about "engagement" on your Facebook pages and how much of a struggle that can be), you've been overlooking the one thing that everybody has, everybody uses and has been here all the time. Email. Are you getting the best out of your email practices for your business?

There's all kinds of stats available email and how it compares to social media in terms of reach, interaction and how people relate to it in terms of customer acceptance and conversion. Statistics such as:

  • 72% of consumers favour email as their preferred method of communicating with businesses they do buy from and do business with (MarketingSherpa 2015)
  • The fact that 1 in 5 people read every email they get (Forrester Research 2014).

Think about it? Do you know anyone who doesn't have an email address or two? It may not be sexy but it's true. People have a love hate relationship with both email and social media but they do check their email much more often than they check in to social media. And they do it with a different intent than checking Facebook.

While that's all well and good, it still isn't always that easy to get used to some of the Email Services out there, such as MailChimp, AWeber, Get Response and more. Having to figure out things like Auto Responders, List Management and contact management work can sometimes get overwhelming, never mind often mean you have to spend more money to get features over and above the basic list management and email templates. You know, the things you really want and need to manage your customer support strategy.
